The Adapted Hierarchy of Needs model highlights four major areas — Survival, Security, Support and Significance — that we all must pay attention to, in order to live happier and more Balanced lifestyles. The model then further subdivides each core area into two, resulting in eight areas total.  When any of the key areas are ignored or given too much focus — a person starts to struggle.

The Balance of Life (BOL) will assess your strengths in these eight core areas of life. In addition, this assessment will measure your focus (or need for focus) in the Adapted Hierarchy of Needs.  The BOL is an important tool to see where an individual sees themselves in the core areas. Our goal is to develop Balance in all four main areas so a person can find happiness, Balance, and finally a life of Significance, which means giving back to others.

Measure Your Balance in Life

Think of the BOL like a wheel.  If you have spikes and gaps the wheel will not roll smoothly.  You need to strive for equal measurements in the BOL for a smoother ride and to find Balance.

Make time to occasionally evaluate and measure your Balance of Life (BOL) so you can recognize the gaps that you struggle with. To do this online and save it on your LifeMAPP profile:

After measuring your BOL, discuss your results with your mentor and find out how you can master the awareness of recognizing, prioritizing and meeting needs. This will help you evolve to a life of Significance. There are definite patterns in your BOL that are recognizable and teachable.

Building a Happier Life

We do not gain freedom and happiness when we struggle to meet our goals. Instead, we can only enjoy life after finding Balance in the four key areas. Remember, there are more Opportunities and freedom in Balance & Significance than when struggling in Survival.

Most of the time people chase wrong priorities and in the end, gain nothing at all. To sustain a strong Balance, learn to protect your environment by creating boundaries from noise. Then watch how developing a strong Balance in each area of life will bring you less stress and chaos.
